Britton Likes Texas Titan For Final

By Stuart Turner

Texas Titan looks the one to back in tonight’s Group 3 Brian Johnstone Memorial Final (515m) at Angle Park.

That is the word from gun Victorian trainer Jeff Britton, who has four chances going in the $25,000-to-the-winner-race.

As well as Texas Titan (box four), Britton’s kennels are represented by Oakvale Destiny in box three, Weblec Belle (box six) and box seven's Oakvale Flyer.

All four have performed well in the heats and semi-finals of the series but Britton reckons the draw may favour Texas Titan.

“Oakvale Destiny is boxed well (but) Texas Titan likes being in the middle of the track,” he said.

“For some reason Texas Titan goes a bit better at Angle Park (than elsewhere). He has very strong finish and doesn’t seem to have the bad habits of Sandown where he goes off the track.

“At Angle Park he seems to go round or underneath them.

“Maybe he is the better chance.”

Texas Titan has recorded two wins to reach the final, including last week’s scorching 29.66 semi-final run.

Oakvale Destiny finished second behind her kennelmate last week but has a superb record from close to the rail and already has two Group wins to her name.

She will likely start favourite around $2.20 but Britton said she could be upstaged by one of her kennelmates.

“I think Texas Titan has the stronger finish than Oakvale Destiny,” Britton said. “Having said that, Oakvale Destiny is boxed right where she is.

“Weblec Belle is young and improving and with her early speed she could be right in the mix.

“All of them are well and looking good and I just hope they can have a clear run and avoid trouble.”
