Winsome Prince Aiming For A Perfect Ten

By thedogs.com.au

Undefeated chaser Winsome Prince will be aiming for his 10th win from as many starts at Maitland (450m) this afternoon.

Trained by Melinda Finn, Winsome Prince (pictured) will jump from box four in a six dog free for all. A win could confirm his position as greyhound racing's hottest prospect.

The son of Barcia Bale is coming off a win at Wentworth Patk last week, which was his first look at the metropolitan track. In that race he won the 520m race in 30.01, which proved to be the fastest time of the night after the track had been heavily watered to cope with the extreme warm temperatures.

The start prior to that, Winsome Prince set a track record for the 450m at Maitland, running a sizzling time of 24.79 - 0.08 seconds faster than the previous record set by Paw Licking in a heat of the Maitland Cup earlier this year.

Melinda Finn said another track record could be on the cards for Winsome Prince.

“I cannot see why not,” she said. “He is fighting fit and pulled up well (from Wentworth Park).

“He looks like he is feeling really good and if the track is fast, it’s a possibility.

“As long as he comes round safe that is the main thing (but) another record would be good.”

Finn is aiming Winsome Prince at the Group 1 Silver Chief Classic heats at The Meadows on 20 December, rather than the Group 2 Gosford Cup on Boxing Day.

Winsome Prince already has a group race victory to his name, taking out the Group 3 Dapto Maiden at his third career start in August this year.
