Winsome Prince Makes It A Perfect Nine

By Jeff Collerson

Winsome Prince will not tackle the Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Gold Cup and instead could be off to Melbourne to contest the Group 1 Silver Chief Classic heats at The Meadows after maintaining his unbeaten record on Friday night at Wentworth Park.

Despite racing wide, Winsome Prince took the lead at the first turn to win at his Wentworth Park debut by 11 lengths.

His tally now stands at nine starts for nine wins.

"The Silver Chief heats on December 20 are an option but I don’t like to plan too far ahead because when you do that you get disappointed," John Finn, whose wife Minnie trains Winsome Prince, said on Friday.

"Winsome Prince likes to run in the middle of the track so I wasn’t surprised when he got wide for much of tonight’s race."

Winsome Prince was widely expected to run blistering time but Friday’s track was heavily watered due to the extreme temperatures during the day and the dog’s time of 30.01 was clearly the best of the night.

Apart from Winsome Prince, Friday’s most impressive winners were bush greyhounds Cosmic Prince and Fashion Princess.

Wagga-trained Cosmic Prince overcame a check at the first turn and a collision on the back straight to win by three lengths in 30.54 while Fashion Princess showed great tenacity to win her race by a head in 30.70.

Fashion Princess contested the entire race as “ham in the sandwich" while duelling for the lead with Pride Of Mykonos on the rail and Hilda’s Boy on her outside before finishing best to snatch a last stride victory.
