Zipping Abby Becoming A Stunner For Seymour

By Stuart Turner

Ron Seymour can still pick a potential star in the making – as ZIPPING Abby is demonstrating perfectly.

The sprinter, who is fast emerging as one of NSW’s most promising greyhounds, jumps from box four in Saturday’s $8000-to-the-winner ladbrokes.com.au Sprint Series Final (520m) at Wentworth Park.

Last Saturday night’s impressive 29.66 victory at the Sydney track underlined her ability and was doubly special for her trainer.

Seymour, who turns 75 this Tuesday, had previously told disbelieving owner Marty Hallinan that the greyhound was capable of a 29.60 run

“Is it nice to be right?” he said with a grin. “My word it is.

“I’ve been involved with greyhounds now for 60 years. It is nice to show that I’ve still got something to offer.

“This will be tough but I’m reasonably confident she can win here.”

Last Saturday's latest victory at Wentworth Park took ZIPPING Abby’s impressive record to five wins and two placings from eight starts.

The exciting chaser is a daughter of 2011 Group 1 Vic Peters winner Spring Gun, who finished with 18 wins from 27 starts, and looks to have similar pedigree.

Seymour thinks she has a chance here but his reaction to rival Recruitment drawing box one spoke volumes.

“Strewth,” he said.  “That greyhound will be hard to beat from there.

“I was hoping for box eight, but I’ll have to work with the four. She won from there a couple of weeks ago so it’s not all bad.

“It’s all about what happens at box rise. If they leave her alone, she can go well.

“If she gets a clear run then she can do it.”

Seymour also said he would target a forthcoming Group race for ZIPPING Abby if she could maintain her progress.

“I think there’s a good race in her,” he said. “Whether this year or next, I’m not sure yet.

“I think she will win a couple more in the city yet.”

Saturday’s meeting also features the $8000-to-the-winner Odds Park Corp Bitches Only Final (520m).

Exciting sprinter Lady Ronray  (pictured, black rug) jumps from box two aiming for her 13th win in 16 starts.

Race eight features an exciting contest between ZIPPING Willow, Anything Less and Group 1 winner Bessy Boo.
