Winsome Prince Can Reign at Wentworth Park

By Stuart Turner

Record-breaking Winsome Prince is stepping up to the big stage while Winsome Mission and Winsome Jacko will meet at Bulli in what is another exciting week for trainer Melinda Finn.

Unbeaten sprinter Winsome Prince, who enhanced his already glowing reputation with a 450m track record at Maitland last Thursday, jumps in this Friday’s Beteasy Maitland to City Final (520m) at Wentworth Park.

This will be a first competitive outing at the Sydney track for the sprinter, who is arguably the most exciting greyhound in NSW racing right now.

With impressive wins at Dapto and Bulli also under his belt, though, Finn is confident of another strong display.

“I can’t see Wentworth Park worrying him, “ she said.  “He has not been out of the boxes there, but  been there post-to-post  and went just as quick.

“He has gone round well at Dapto so I don’t think this will concern him.

“The only problem would be if there’s too much pace inside of him. He is not that quick out of the boxes, but once he gets going he accelerates superbly.

“As long as he gets a clear run, he will be hard to stop.”

Winsome Price chalked up his eighth straight win in devastating fashion at Maitland, winning by almost 14 lengths in a superb 24.79.

This was 0.08 seconds faster than the previous record set by one of the country’s top sprinters, Paw Licking, in a heat of the Maitland Cup earlier this year.

The run was all the more impressive considering Finn’s chaser had been sidelined for almost a month beforehand with a toe injury.

“We’re just trying to keep it week-by-week with him,” Finn said.

“Even if he goes well here, we’ll keep taking around the tracks and working him through the grades.”

Meanwhile, Winsome Mission and Winsome Jacko both feature in the Ladbrokes.com.au 1-4 Wins (472m) at Bulli on Wednesday night.

Winsome Jacko (pictured with connections and race officials) recently broke the 400m track record at Maitland and the pair are among what looks a potential superstar litter for Finn and co-trainer husband John.

This is the seventh race of ten at Bulli, with other notables including I'm Pedro (race three), Martin Clegg (race four) and Fantastic Pete (race five).
