Haich Two Mo Proving A Real Player

By Stuart Turner

Mick Player has seen a lot in his training career but Haich Two Mo is proving a revelation.

The Nowra track specialist aims for six wins from eight starts at the South Coast track in today's seventh race,  the Oysters Galore South Nowra Stakes (365m).

All five of the eye-catching chaser’s career wins so far have come over 365m at Nowra, including last week’s superb run of 20.67.

Player said his sprinter, who jumps from box six today, is making some dazzling progress.

“I have had dogs for 30 years and not had a short courser this quick,” Player said. “It is a great feeling.

“That’s what it’s all about - discovering exciting greyhounds like this one.

“He deserves all the accolades he gets. He is a terrific dog at home and does nothing wrong.

“He is not a brilliant beginner but once he hits the ground his early acceleration is phenomenal.”

Last week’s victory made it five wins from 10 starts for Haich Two Mo, a son of former Group 1 Paws of Thunder winner Lochinvar Marlow.

He has had one placing from two starts over 520m so far and Player said his pup would have another crack at the longer distances soon.

“The owners prefer to keep him going at Nowra for the moment,” he said.

“We’ll probably step him up to the 400m at Richmond next week or the week after and see how he goes.

“I don’t think it’ll be long before he is in town.

“I don’t think there’s a greyhound here who can stop him winning. There’s none who are running the times he can.”

As well as having a growing number of wins, Haich Two Mo also has one of the best names of the NSW greyhound racing circuit.

“Two of the owners are called Harry and I think the other is called Maurice,” Player, who works out of the south-west Sydney town of Tahmoor, said. “So there’s H times two and a Mo.

“I don’t name the greyhounds – I just train them.”

Player has a handful of other greyhounds jumping at Nowra and picked Senorita Jem, who starts from box one in race one, as a potential winner.

Other notables at Nowra include Peak Physique (race four) and Crazy Spike (race nine).

Nowra Monday racing starts at 3.02pm.
