Army Surplus A Chief Hope For Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Army Surplus pulled up well after his second behind the flying Lady Ronray at Bulli on Wednesday night and trainer Adam Wade expects the dog to go well in Friday night’s second heat of the Betfair Blue Paws Super Series (520m) at Wentworth Park.

The sprinter has box seven and while Wade prefers seeing his dog drawn near the rails the greyhound has won three of his six races from boxes seven and eight.

“I was pleasantly surprised at how easily Army Surplus led at Bulli on Wednesday because it was a smart field,’’ Wade said.

“It’s no disgrace to get run down by Lady Ronray because she is an exceptional greyhound.

Army Surplus should have won at his most recent Wentworth Park start when he finished third to My Awesome Opal and Magic Dream.

“He zoomed into second place behind Magic Dream at the first turn but tried to gallop over the top of that greyhound and it cost him the race.

“Unfortunately that’s typical of Army Surplus, he is a big goose, but he can run and has come back well after a recent break from racing.’’

Isabel Enlim is boxed to break through for a well deserved first track win in Friday night’s first heat of the Betfair Blue Paws (520m).

The Len Haaring-trained greyhound has box eight, the same draw she had at Bathurst on Monday when she led throughout in a smart 30.09.

At her first three Wentworth Park outings, Isabel Enlim was runner-up while her two subsequent unplaced runs were in far tougher races than she is contesting on Friday.

“I gave her a run in a Vic Peters Classic heat at Wenty on October 18 but whatever chance she had she blew at the start when she was last to leave the boxes,’’ Haaring said.

“She had box eight that night too but came out smartly from the eight at Bathurst.

Isabel Enlim likes to track wide so an outside draw suits her and if she begins as quickly as she did at Bathurst on Monday I think she will go well.’’

Scratching of smart beginner Danger Scene should assist the chances of the Christine Proctor-trained Lukey Chino in Friday night’s Nowra To Wenty Final (520m).

Lukey Chino has box three and with Danger Scene out of box four Christine Proctor’s greyhound has a better chance of securing a clear run to the first turn.

At his track debut on October 27, Lukey Chino came from box eight to beat all but Zipping Tarn against slightly stronger opposition than he meets on Friday.

Lukey Chino was beaten just over five lengths by Zipping Tarn but his run was excellent as he was last to leave the boxes and showed good pace to be second at the first turn.

He was beaten by Country Pearl in his Nowra heat last Monday night but that greyhound has box five on Friday and lacks Wentworth Park experience.

Fastest heat winner was Walkaway Breeze, who is likely to start favourite after drawing box one in Friday night’s final.

It may not be so straightforward though as Walkaway Breeze has been unplaced in each of his three Wentworth Park races.
