Five Dragons Aims To Fire At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten Five Dragons has impressed so far but trainer Charlie Gatt reckons she faces a tough test at Wednesday’s high-quality Bulli meeting.

The promising sprinter aims for three wins from three starts when she jumps from box five in the Ladbrokes Sprint Series (400m) heats.

She already one solid success at Bulli to her name but the tough field today includes another star novice, Master Gee.

Gatt also said the draw had done his pup no favours but thinks she is a decent chance.

“You never say you are going to win when you have box five,” he said with a grin.

“As long as she avoids interference, I still think she can win. She’s not a brilliant beginner but she has great accelaration.

“I think she can go well here and she has a chance.”

Five Dragons has started impressively her racing career impressively with 400m victories at Richmond and Bulli.

That last win was achieved in 22.72 in a decent field including Jason Magri’s Solar Field.

Watch a replay of that win here.

She has a decent pedigree, with her father Disintergrate a handy country track performer with 22 wins to his name.

“She has always shown me that she has that bit of pace,” Gatt said.

“I’m hoping she can step-it-up to 500m but we’ll take it race-by-race with her.”

This race looks like being a shootout between Five Dragons and fellow impressive newcomer Master Gee, who starts from box three.

He saw off a high-class field to win last week’s Brodie Wells Electrical Future Stars Classic at Maitland.

This is the ninth of ten races on what is a strong-looking card at Bulli.

After an unsuccessful crack at this year’s Group 1 Vic Peters, standout chaser Lady Ronray (pictured) returns to Bulli in the AAA Radiator Stakes (472m).

With 10 wins from 13 starts so far, she looks good to continue her imposing record here.

Kennelmate Ronray Spirit (box four) goes for the hat-trick in race four but could face a tough challenge from Fantastic Pete, who starts from the five.

Oh So Striking in the fifth race and Spring Missile (race six) look strong contenders, while impressive sprinter Bleiswijk Billy is continuing his return from injury in the day’s second race.

Action at Bulli is underway at 7.08pm.
