Francine Aims To Continue Run At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Francine has already achieved one landmark for Robbie Barnden and he is hoping she can move closer to repeating the feat at Gosford on Tuesday night.

The exciting pup jumps from box two in the fourth race of the night, the Macro Meats Stakes Sprint Series (515m) heats, aiming for back-to-back wins after a first triumph over 520m at Unibet Gardens last Friday night.

She had earlier racked up six consecutive triumphs over 400m before having that successful form stopped at Maitland last month.

Having resumed her winning ways, the experienced trainer is hopeful his “Mad railer” can continue her latest streak at Gosford.

“I’ve had heaps of greyhounds win five in a row, but never six,” he said. “I just hope you are talking to me again if she wins six in a row again.

“The win at the Gardens was the first time she has had the inside box and now she will go from close to there again (at Gosford).

“In her last few races over 400m she was coming home strong at the end - that is how she wins.

“Hopefully she can do the same again here.”

The daughter of notable sire Collision and dam First Star, herself a daughter of legendary Brett Lee, is building a decent career.

She has seven wins and two placings from 15 starts, including those six wins between September and October.

She also stepped up well to the longer distance, winning on her debut at the distance at Unibet Gardens with a solid 30.10 show.

“It perhaps wasn’t the greatest time but it was a hot night so they had to water the track, which Made it tricky,” Barnden said.

“It’s probably not as strong a field here – no disrespect – so I think she’s got a good chance for a show.

“I’m hoping to give her a run at Gosford this week and then aim her for the Gosford To Wenty race.

“She’s not up to the class of the top greyhounds yet but she is still young.

“We’ll keep her going and see what happens.”

Others to watch at Gosford include Revlon Babe in race seven, Zulu Mystique in race eight and smart pup Wussell (race nine).

Ten races feature at Gosford and action starts at 6.56pm.
