Frattini In Peak Form For Vic Peters

By Jeff Collerson

Frattini">Frattini is a strong contender for Saturday night’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic (520m) after posting her best Wentworth Park trial only four nights before the race.

The sprinter who rattled home for a close second in Lucy Lobster’s semi-final, recorded her best ever sectional times in a short trial on Tuesday night.

Trainer Christine Oldfield gave Frattini a “finish on’’ after her bitch had recorded splits of 5.43, 13.85 and 17.94 on Tuesday.

“Those figures are a couple of lengths quicker than her recent sectional times at Wentworth Park,’’  delighted owner Amanda Stollery said ahead of the $75,000-to-the-winner race.

“And because her run home times are so good, she must surely be hard to beat on Saturday night.

“She had box one in her semi but because of the dogs drawn around her I think she is even better positioned this week.’’

There is plenty of winning Vic Peters form surrounding Frattini because trainer Oldfield won the 2010 final with Spring Gun while her owner’s grandmother Enid Stollery owned and trained the 1982 winner KING SEAGULL.

But Anything Less (pictured), with seven wins and a “Certainty beaten’’ second from eight Wentworth Park outings, remains the one to beat.

Trainer John Finn is happy with his box three draw as he wanted the dog drawn closer to the rails than the box fives he had in his heat and semi wins.

ZIPPING Oscar, who “lost’’ the first turn when a $1.40 favourite at Wentworth Park on Monday night, is worth another chance in Saturday night’s second heat of the Ladbrokes Stakes (520m).

On Monday ZIPPING Oscar had box one but after beginning cleanly, speared off the track at the first bend, costing himself the race.

He plugged on to finish third and trainer Jason MACKAY believes the dog’s box six draw on Saturday could be more suitable.

“When I trialled ZIPPING Oscar on his own at Wenty he railed like a bird but on Monday, with pressure coming from dogs on his outside, he wanted to veer off," MACKAY said.

“Young dogs will do that, they will rail well on their own but want to move off when they have dogs on their outside.

“That being the case I think box six on Saturday should be good for ZIPPING Oscar.’’

A smart trial at Appin on Tuesday indicates Jumble">Jumble is ready to return to the winning list in heat five of the Ladbrokes Stakes.

Jumble has been placed in three of his four Wentworth Park starts since scoring an impressive win there on September 19.

“He has gone back to his old habit of raking at the boxes just before the start,’’ trainer Craig Chappelow said.

“I have tried everything to break him out of this and if he can begin with them he is fit enough to win.’’

Trainer Anthony Azzopardi’s latest recruit Topper Road makes his Wentworth Park debut in heat four of the Ladbrokes Stakes after winning four of eight provincial starts.

Topper Road has drawn box one for the first time but Azzopardi is happy with the draw.

Topper Road seems to begin better from outside boxes but in this type of race the rails should suit him,’’ the trainer said.
