Bleiswijk Billy Happy To Be Back At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Bleiswijk Billy is back in long-awaited action at Bulli on Wednesday and he is letting the world know about it.

The former flying sprinter, who won nine of his first 11 starts but has endured an injury-plagued 2014, jumps from box two in the Aus-Pump Concrete Stakes (400m).

This is a first race in more than four months for MAJELLA Ferguson’s chaser, whose racing career has been badly derailed by a groin problem for most of the year.

It will not be an easy return either but his trainer said the greyhound is itching to be on the track again.

“He is a beautiful dog,” Ferguson said. “I am really excited to have him back.

“He is normally a quiet dog but he has been noisy in the kennels the last couple of days. I think he is ready to go.

“He is jumping out of his skin and looks fantastic.”

Bleiswijk Billy enjoyed a superb end to 2013 and looked good for more success this year when he won yet again at Dapto in January.

Since then, though, he has been limited to eight starts, with one further victory in Bulli over 400m to his name.

He has wins at Maitland, Richmond and Gosford to his name and could still be a threat over 520m if he can stay fit.

Ferguson said she is hoping to send Bleiswijk Billy to Victoria if he comes through the race, the seventh of the night, unscathed.

He will likely travel south with kennelmates Cyclone Simone, who won impressively again at Wentworth Park last Saturday night over 520m, and promising newcomer Unbroken.

“This is a tough race (but) I think he is ready to go," Ferguson said.

"We are looking for a win. I never put my greyhounds in races they cannot win.

“He is probably not a strong 500 metre dog (at this time) but I think he can get up there again.

“We might have a go at somewhere like Geelong over 450m or 460 metres with him and then bring him back up here.”

Kiddie Cutts, Supercell and Jayden Returns look strong best to complete the quaddie in races five, six and eight respectively.

Ten races are on the card at Bulli and action starts at 7.08pm.
