Screen Test Aims For Good Show At Wentworth Park

By Stuart Turner

Screen Test is about to take a well-deserved break but trainer Ken Staines is hopeful his in-form charge can enjoy another win at Wentworth Park on Monday.

The sprinter goes for a fourth straight win when he jumps from box five in the first petsnacks.com.au Sprint Series (520m) heat.

Staines’s greyhound took a while to find his form but he has been flying in recent weeks, securing consecutive wins in good company at Richmond, Wentworth Park and Nowra.

This is likely to be his last outing for a while and Staines thinks another triumph is possible.

“He is not boxed well (but) I think he can win here,” Staines said.

“He wants to get to the fence pretty quickly so it will depend if he can do that.

“I think he has reached his peak in this spell. I will turn him out after this for a while and I hope he can come back just as strong.”

Screen Test may not have drawn ideally but he certainly looks to pose a threat here.

He has enjoyed a superb October, with three wins and another placing from his four starts this month taking his career record to six successes from 15 starts.

The greyhound won solidly in 30.21 on his last visit to Wentworth Park on October 11 and has also been victorious on one of his two previous starts from box five.

Staines believes Hilda’s Boy (box eight) poses the biggest threat tonight.

The sprinter is usually very strong from the outside and won from box eight on her last visit to Wentworth Park earlier this month.

“My dog isn’t as strong as Hilda’s Boy,” he said.

“I think (Screen Test) is capable of winning here if they leave him alone and he has the space to move across. We will keep our fingers crossed.

“He is no champion but he gives you 110 per cent and that’s all you can ask from a greyhound.”

Other notables at Wentworth Park tonight include Jason Mackay’s unbeaten Zipping Oscar, who  will jump from box one in the night’s fourth race.

The promising greyhound has won on all three starts so far.

Another from Mackay’s kennels, Zipping Tarn, won impressively over 450m at Maitland last start and should be strong in race nine.

Lightning-fast starter Premier Mozz looks well drawn in box one to take the night’s eighth race.

Ten races are on the card at Wentworth Park and action starts at 7.13pm.
