Silver Label Going For More Gold At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Silver Label is one of NSW’s most in-form greyhounds but trainer Sydney Swain hopes there is a lot more success to come – starting at Gosford on Tuesday night.

The sprinter aims for a sixth successive win – and a hat-trick at the Central Coast track – when he jumps from box eight in the All Natural Treats Sprint Series (400m).

Silver Label has shown his strong early pace several times already but has a mixed record when racing over longer than 500m.

Swain is aiming his greyhound  for December’s the Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Cup (515m), part of the Thank Dog It’s Friday series,  and believes more improvement is possible.

“That’s the whole objective of taking him to Gosford,” Swain said.

“We have been working him post-to-post and then putting him over 400m to try and get him stronger.

“He is pretty fast up the 400m but he has trouble getting over the 500m.

“He has won over 515m at the Gardens twice with great runs so I’m sure he will get there.”

A son of Victorian star Where’s Pedro, Silver Label’s recent good run has taken his record to 11 wins from 19 starts.

He is among a litter also including New Zealand Oaks title holder Royal Runner.

Swain said a crack at the $40,000-to-the-winner Gosford Cup, which starts with heats on December 26, is the goal for Silver Label.

He also said the greyhound would also likely return to Wentworth Park, where he has had three unsuccessful outings so far, shortly.

“He has trialled 30.10 at Wentworth Park which isn’t too bad,” Swain said. “When he raced there before he missed the kick.

“I’m sure he can go well there (over 520m) but he just needs to lead early in races.

“I’m confident he can get back to that level.”

Altered Mist (box seven) could provide strong opposition, having won three in a row.

Box three’s Lucy Lips is also handy at this level and returned to form with a 22.92 win at the track last week.

Others to watch at Gosford include Steve White’s pair Paua Explosion and Paua To Change in races four and five respectively.

This year's Laurie Healion Memorial winner Lightest Touch is also in action in race four.

Asia’s Babe has had good wins over 520m and steps up to the 600m in race seven.

Ten races are on offer at Gosford and action starts at 6.57pm.
