All Strung Out Shapes Up For Vic Peters

By Jeff Collerson

All Strung Out has not raced at Wentworth Park since June but the litter brother to boom youngster Anything Less has trialled brilliantly in preparation for Saturday night’s opening heat of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic (520m).

Victorian trainer Glenn Rounds is confident his greyhound can earn a place in next week's semi-finals of the $75,000-to-the-winner race.

“I gave him a break after his last trip to Sydney but I trialled him over 400 metres at Warragul on Monday and he went super," Rounds said.

“I’m pleased he has drawn box two on Saturday night because the dog has had several unsuitable draws in his five Wentworth Park starts which have resulted in five placings.

“It is difficult to win at Wentworth Park from an outside box, especially against top quality opponents.

All Strung Out will make full use of box two.’’

Rounds and his partner, the late Judy Hayley, showed bold initiative two years ago when they paid a hefty five figure sum for brood bitch Casey’s Angel and two puppies.

“Judy and I had trained Casey’s Angel, who was out of Leprechaun Yap, the dam of Betty’s Angel, and we were keen to get her back for breeding purposes,’’ Rounds said.

When they mated her with Bekim Bale in mid 2012 Casey’s Angel produced All Strung and Anything Less, winner of this yerar’s Wentworth Park Magic Maiden Final in race record time of 29.62.

Victoria’s other Vic Peters Classic entry Kiltah Magic has drawn box three in heat four, on paper the weakest of the races to decide to composition of next week’s semi-finals line-up.

Although Kiltah Magic has not raced at Wentworth Park her trainer Kelly Bravo has disclosed that her greyhound has seen the track.

Kiltah Magic had a box to box trial at Wenty a few weeks back,’’ Bravo said.

“She has won six from 11 starts and is very promising, she is up there with the best greyhounds my husband Brett and I have trained in our 20 years in the sport.

Kiltah Magic’s only worry is that she is still quite inexperienced.’’

Kiltah Magic is a daughter of the Bravo family’s former champion sprinter Kilty Lad, the 2011 Adelaide Cup and Silver Chief Classic winner.

So for Kelly Bravo to rate Kiltah Magic in that league is high praise indeed.

Paua To Roar will be out to maintain an unusual record when he exits box five in heat five of the Vic Peters.

The Steve White-trained dog, whose career was turned around through a successful tonsillectomy in April, is unbeaten in three races wearing the yellow rug.

The Nowra Spring Puppy Classic winner has drawn one of the weaker Classic heats and has the early speed to again overcome his middle box draw.

When he won his Magic Maiden heat at Wentworth Park early this year, Paua To Roar posted dazzling splits of 5.35 and 13.72, the same night his more vaunted kennelmate Tommy Brislane won after recording sectionals of 5.46 and 13.94.

Safest bet on Saturday night should be Cawbourne Whip (pictured, white rug), superbly drawn in box one in the Macro Meats Gourmet Game Stakes.

Cawbourne Whip has won three of her four starts from the rails trap and with wide running Asia’s Babe drawn alongside her in box two, seems assured of a trouble-free run to the first turn.

None of her rivals on Saturday night has got anywhere near Cawbourne Whip’s personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.38.

She should be first leg of a winning double for Jodie Lord who has Cawbourne Cobra in box eight in the Ladbrokes.com.au Stakes.

Lord trained the first four at Wentworth Park last week when Magic Earner prevailed in a blanket finish over Cawbourne Cobra, Cawbourne Kayono and Gotta Plan.

But Cawbourne Cobra was a certainty beaten after being “chopped off’’ by pacemaker Cawbourne Kayono at the first turn.

Cawbourne Cobra’s best Wentworth Park time is 29.69, clearly the fastest figures recorded among the eight runners in Saturday night’s race.

And it is significant that her 29.69 effort was achieved from box eight, the draw she has this week.
