White Hopes To Turn On The Paua

By Stuart Turner

Paua To Roar is being aimed for more possible NSW and interstate Group glory after continuing trainer Steve White’s dream run of success.

The exciting sprinter defied a cut leg to record an 11th win in 15 starts in the $25,000-to-the-winner Group 3 Classicbet Puppy Classic at Nowra on Saturday night.

Paua To Roar’s victory continued White’s memorable 2014 after his recent victories in the Group 1 Sporting Megastar at Dapto and Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint with Tommy Brislane.

The Nowra Hill trainer dedicated the latest triumph to the hard-working team of supporters.

OVER the last four weeks, we’ve won a Group 1, Group 2 and a Group 3,” White said. “We just hope it keeps coming.

“We put in a lot of work and it’s good when you get the results.

“I might put Paua To Roar in the Vic Peters heats (this Saturday) and there’s the Hobart Thousand Cup (in December).

“They are Group 1 race (but) he is a good dog and those are the races you want to be involved with.”

Paua to Roar was a $2.60 favourite for the Puppy Classic after strong displays in the heat and semi-final and duly underlined that status with a comfortable win.

He turned on the motors at the first bend to surge away and finish two lengths clear of On Tilt, with Win Some Cash third.

The greyhound’s comfortable victory in 29.84 was all the more commendable considering he had needed three stitches in a cut leg prior to the race.

“Luckily he was fine going into the final,” White said. “He is a sensible dog and he pulled up okay.

“He is a fast dog with a lot of early pace and once he got in front they were never going to catch him.”

White is now turning his attention to more possible big races ahead.

Tommy Brislane is currently in Victoria preparing for a possible run in the forthcoming Group 1 $145,000-to-the-winner Topgun (525m).

The chaser trialled well at The Meadows on Friday night and is looking good for an invite to the Topgun on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Paua To Roar’s promising littermates Paua Outburst and Foxy Nakita should both be in action at Bulli on Wednesday night.

The latter has three wins from four starts to her name already, included two triumphs at the Illawarra track.
