Pair Aiming To Twist Again At Puppy Classic

By Stuart Turner

There’s room for improvement with both Shady Ace and Twist Me Over but both are still in with a shout of emulating the feats of esteemed kennelmate Double Twist.

The pair go in races one and three of Monday’s Group 3 Classicbet Spring Puppy Classic semi-finals at Nowra respectively after qualifying from last week’s Heats.

Both greyhounds are from the Nowra Hill kennels of trainer Garry Edwards, who oversaw the stunning career of recently retired record-breaking Group champion Double Twist.

The duo sneaked through the first stage after finishing fifth in their Heats and Edwards will be hoping for better performances this time out.

Meanwhile, Nancy McIntosh will be hoping Little Charlie can maintain her impressive form and take the hobby trainer another step closer to her first group finalist in more than 40 years.

Last week’s 30.23 success in the Heats was Little Charlie’s seventh win from 12 starts.

With solid wins at Gosford and Unibet Gardens under her belt, she looks a strong chance from box five this week.

It has also made the long trek from her Hunter Valley home in Abermain worthwhile for McIntosh.

“I expect Little Charlie to be improved by her Heat win because she had hurt her hip the previous start,” the 71-year-old trainer said. “I had to work on the injury for 10 days to get her right for last Monday’s race.”

Heat one also features Paua To Roar, who looks a strong chance for the series.

The highly promising chaser, trained by Steve White, enjoyed his ninth win in 13 races in last week’s Heats.

Having drawn the rail from the second consecutive week, a repeat of his 29.92 run in the Heats would make him hard to stop.

Frattini looks the one to watch in Heat two after last week’s exceptional performance.

Christine Oldfield’s promising greyhound, who has box six this week, zipped round in an impressive 29.82 for her eighth win in 11 starts.

Paua Explosion (box five) could be hard to stop in the third and final Heat.

Another from the kennels of Nowra Hill local White, who is currently being kept busy by the flying two-time Group champion Tommy Brislane,  the novice has won at Nowra previously and has also been successful at Wentworth Park over the distance.

The $25,000-to-the-winner final takes place this coming Saturday.

Ten races are on the card at Nowra and action starts at 2.58pm.
