The cream of WA’s sprinting talent will descend on Kanyana Park on Friday night for the heats of Mandurah’s biggest race, the Group 3 Solo Mandurah Cup (490m).
As is customary for this race eight time winner Linda Britton brings a powerful team into the series.
In heat 1 Britton’s handy chaser Proven Will, a last start Free To All winner at Cannington, is likely to vie for favouritism with veteran Luba Monelli.
Even though he’ll jump from the pink the consistent Thunder Rama also has claims.
Britton will be hopeful that My Mate Cobber can immediately rebound following a disappointing effort in last week’s WA Bred Championship when he contests heat 2.
Although he’s only had one other appearance on this track, when he ran third back in May, he looks a cut above his opposition here and should be favoured from his inside draw.
Britton has a standout in each of the next two heats starting in heat 3 with defending Mandurah Cup champion Te Amo (pictured with connections).
Te Amo loves this track and loves an inside draw where she can use her early pace to full benefit so she’ll be hard to defeat.
The dangers are kennelmate Gomes, which is always a chance from the pole, and track specialist Last Day.
Star Recall is probably the best 500m racedog going around in the west at the moment and a Group race trophy would cement her growing reputation.
She commences her Mandurah Cup campaign in heat 4 where she returns from a short injury enforced layoff.
There’s a chance that she might not be 100 per cent fit but she is unbeaten from eight previous attempts on this surface and should be good enough to overcome ‘the lemon’.
Britton also has a strong hand in heat 5 with newcomer Ozzie Bullet.
Ozzie Bullet has won twice and placed third from three attempts since joining Britton’s kennels.
From box two Ozzie Bullet deserves to start favourite with Houdini Monelli in red and Astronomic at the other end of the traps likely to be main dangers.
