Victoria Awaits For Bralyn Stalker

By Stuart Turner

Bralyn Stalker is being aimed for the top after providing Bradley Northfield with the perfect leaving present.

The exciting sprinter is being transferred to Victorian trainer Kel Greenough after producing a superb run to capture the $25,000-to-the-winner Group 3 Charcoal Inn Casino Cup (484m).

Bralyn Stalker is following in the footsteps of another Northern Rivers product, Paw Licking, who cut his teeth in the region under Allan Lang before later becoming one of the country’s most successful sprinters under Greenough.

Northfield (pictured, courtesy Lisa Vanderstok Photography) said the greyhound was capable of further notable success in Victoria after securing Friday’s win.

“I think Bralyn Stalker can go a fair way,” Northfield, whose wife Lynne owns the greyhound, said. “Whether he gets to the top, I think it just depends on how he adapts to the tracks in Victoria.

“I think he will be competitive in better company and be suited to the 450m races they have for the country cups in Victoria.

“It’s sad to say goodbye but you’ve got to give these good dogs every opportunity.”

Bralyn Stalker was the pre-race $2.40 favourite and produced a strong run from box eight to triumph.

Pace Ventura (box seven) threatened to overhaul him but Northfield’s charge held on to win by two lengths.

The win was Bralyn Stalker’s 11th win in 15 starts and also secured a third Casino Cup triumph for Northfield, who works out of Backmede, close to the Queen Elizabeth Park track.

It also meant he enjoyed bragging rights over brother Glen and cousin Charlie, who both had greyhounds in the race.

“For sure I gave them some after the race,” Northfield said with a grin. “We have a friendly rivalry.

“There were lots of friends and family there, so it was a tremendous moment.

“You look after your dogs and then you win a race like this – it’s great.

“The celebrations went late into Friday night.”

Dayseas Jet finished third for Glen Northfield in the race, one of the biggest of the year in the Northern Rivers region.

Bradley Northfield is now preparing some of his promising greyhounds for the forthcoming Pop Northfield Memorial Cup at Casino.

These include Bralyn Bauple, who has trialled well at Casino.

Meanwhile, racing continues at Lismore on Tuesday night.

Ones to watch include Raging Thunder (race three), Zipping Zorro in race eight and race nine’s Al Senor.

Ten races are on the card and action starts at 6.43pm.
