Hedley's Heroes Go At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

The Beau Hedley-trained duo Can Of and Medusa's Me Mum aim to continue their trainer's remarkable run of form at Wentworth Park on Friday.

Four of Hedley's last five starters in NSW have all won and the Cooranbong trainer has an amazing win strike rate of close to 50% for 2014.

Exciting sprinter Can Of claimed his sixth win in 12 starts at Wentworth Park last Saturday night - his first success since returning from three months on the sidelines.

A 29.47 greyhound at his best over 520m, the greyhound is being primed for a potential crack at forthcoming group races including next month's Gold Coast Cup.

Can Of goes in race seven, the Find Us on FaceBook Stakes (520m), which also features this year's Peter Mosman Classic winner Bessy Boo.

Medusa's Me Mum will aim for a fourth win from four starts in her biggest race to date - the AAA Radiator Specialists Sprint Series Final  (520m) - the eighth race on the card.

The greyhound has gone sub-30 seconds on all three visits to Wentworth Park and looks capable of challenging for group races soon.

In other action on Friday night, Amyjo will be looking to bounce back in the Get Footy Final Fever Trackside Stakes (520m).

Amyjo">Amyjo's wide running trait cost her a win at Wentworth Park last Friday night and the JODIE Lord-trained bitch only needs to race more tractably to break through for her first city success.

Amyjo has box five in the race but meets a similar quality lineup to the field she almost defeated last week.

The classy Addison Road had the drop on Amyjo from the middle of the back straight but only nailed JODIE Lord’s bitch in the last couple of strides.

Despite getting to the centre of the track, Amyjo made all the running and had the race won until she veered off and almost hit the 520m boxes on the home turn.

That cost Amyjo dearly and she went under in a photo finish.

Amyjo uses a bit of the track but she will win a couple of races at Wentworth Park," Lord said.

“In her favour is that she is improving all the time.’’

Lord will also rug up Amyjo’s litter brother Let It Develop in Friday night’s Good Luck Swans Stakes.

Like Amyjo, Let It Develop is raced by Peter Spiteri and after winning three of 14 provincial starts Let It Develop made a luckless Wentworth Park debut last Friday night.

After missing the jump, Let It Develop showed good early speed to be third at the first turn, where he was badly checked and lost all chance.

“It was a good run as Let It Develop had not seen Wentworth Park before last Friday night,’’ Lord said.

“Like Amyjo he possesses some pace and is actually a bit quicker than his sister."

Dee">Dee Jay’s Sniper is chasing her third successive win in Friday night’s Bohemia Crystal Stakes but trainer Troy Donaldson concedes he has concerns about how strongly his bitch will get to the line.

Dee Jay’s Sniper followed a strong finishing Gosford 400m win on September 5 with an all the way win over the same course a week later but makes her 520m debut in Friday night’s race.

“She will get 520 metres but I’m not sure how fast she will run it in,’’ Donaldson said.

Dee Jay’s Sniper has had one trial at Wentworth Park and she went fast early but got tired at the finish.

“She broke 14 seconds for the second split and clocked 18 seconds flat for the third section so from box one Dee Jay’s Sniper should make the pace.

“The last bit will be the worry for her.’’

Trainer Jason Mackay has bright prospects of winning a double on Friday with Zipping Tarn and Zipping Angel in the Wentworthpark.com.au.Stakes and the Adopt A Greyhound Today Stakes respectively.

Zipping Tarn was narrowly beaten by Wentworth Park winner Lucy Lobster at her most recent outing at Maitland on September 18 and at her previous start had made the pace before finishing third to Zipping Tank and Coolabah Jet over Friday night’s course.

In that race Zipping Tarn disputed the early lead but dashed clear going through the pen and clocked a nippy 13.92 for the second split.

She led until within the shadows of the post and went under by only a half-length.

Zipping Angel looks well placed in Friday’s fourth and fifth grade event after winning in this company at Wentworth Park on August 23 and again a week later.

At her only subsequent Wentworth Park outing Zipping Angel finished fifth in top grade on September 8 but the drop back in class should see her able to repeat her pair of sub-30sec wins from last month.

In her most recent win at the Glebe track Zipping Angel had box one and railed to the lead at the catching pen before easily defeating Shoulders, Zambora Magic and Are Jip.

There’s no doubt any one of that trio would be a short-priced favourite against the opposition Zipping Angel faces on Friday night.
