Winsome Prince Aims For Another Crown At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Winsome Prince looks like he has a sparkling future and he faces another test of his potential at Bulli on Wednesday night.

The recent Group 3 Dapto Maiden winner starts from box three in the AAA Radiators Betfair Blue Paws Stake (472m) aiming to make it five wins in his first five starts.

Melinda Finn's impressive newcomer enjoyed a successful first trip to Bulli last week with a solid 26.17 triumph at the Illawarra track.

That victory was achieved from box three and and trainer Finn is confident of a repeat performance.

"Last week was a hard race for a dog just coming out of a Maiden," she said. "He did well to win it.

"I don't think the dogs around him this time have as much early speed so it should suit him.

"Hopefully he can do the same this time around."

Winsome Prince is one of NSW's most promising greyhounds and has the pedigree to succeed.

He may yet emulate father Barcia Bale, who won 13 of 14 races in a brief but remarkable racing career.

Finn has opted not to aim Winsome Prince for next month's Group 1 Vic Peters at Wentworth Park.

She wants to give him more racing experience before taking on the big prizes.

"After this we'll probably take to Maitland," she said.

"He is a young dog - and a big dog - so we want to bring him slowly throught he grades.

"It sometimes is hard to hold back when you know their ability but I think we need to take it slowly.

"He is handling himself well and is a real pleasure to work with (but) you don't want to get too far ahead of yourself."

Cash Rules (box seven) enjoyed a good Maiden win last time out and looks the strongest opponent.

The race is the seventh of ten on the card at Bulli.

Others to watch include Xtreme Knocka in race five,  Boss Electro (race six), and Mighty Hurricane in the 10th.
