Dailly's Delight With Allen Deed

By Stuart Turner

Allen Deed certainly gave his rivals food for thought with a storming run in the Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint (520m) heats and Tom Dailly reckons he can do the same again in this Saturday’s final.

The Victorian (pictured) was the fastest qualifier for the $40,000-to-the-winner race after winning his heat last Saturday night in 29.43.

He will start from box four in the final, where a formidable line-up, including fellow heat winners Tommy Brislane, Ritza Hattie and ASIA’s Babe, awaits.

Having seen Allen Deed perform so well on his debut at Wentworth Park, kennel spokesman Dailly thinks he can repeat that performance in the decider.

“I was rapt when I saw the time,” he said. “He definitely showed New South Wales that he can run.

“I’m not that bothered about the box draw. It doesn’t make much difference – he just needs a clear run.

“If he gets that, then he has a chance.”

Allen Deed has a good record from the outside and demonstrated his prowess from box eight last Saturday night.

He recovered from a slow start to take off just after the first corner and showed impressive speed down the home straight as well.

Victory made it 17 triumphs in 38 starts for the sprinter, who has also placed on eight of his last nine outings.

Tommy Brislane followed up his win in the Group 1 Sportingbet Megastar at Dapto the previous week by winning his heat in 29.64.

He has been installed as the $2.60 favourite for the final with TAB Fixed Odds, with Allen Deed a $4.50 shot.

Megastar runner-up Ritza Hattie was almost as eye-impressive, confirming her return to form with a 29.75 win.

“Yes, Tommy Brislane is the big danger,” Dailly said.”Obviously, you can’t give him a start.

“(Allen Deed) is very adaptable with new tracks. He went to Geelong for the first time over the 460m and was doing great sectional times there.

“I’m not overly confident but he has got a chance in the final if he gets that clear run he needs.”
