Anything Less Expected To Fire At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Anything Less, who smashed the race Magic Maiden race record in a blistering 29.62 performance at Wentworth Park on April 19, is expected to make a winning return to that track for new trainer John Finn on Friday night.

When owned and trained by Victoria’s Glenn Rounds, Anything Less led throughout from box eight in the Group 3 Magic Maiden Final, posting a sensational second split of 13.66 on the way to a comfortable win.

Anything Less resumes from a spell from box one in Friday night’s second heat of the AAA Radiator Specialists Sprint over 520m.

While he had box eight in his Magic Maiden win, the dog won in spite of, not because of the outside draw, after railing keenly to win his Magic Maiden heat in 29.94sec from box two.

Minnie Finn, whose husband John is now training Anything Less, said she was enjoying working with the greyhound.

“Glenn Rounds sent him to us because the dog goes so well at Wentworth Park," she said.

“We have had Anything Less for a few weeks now and he has settled in really well.’’

The Finns have not had a starter at Wentworth Park for almost 12 months but should bounce back with a bang on Friday night.

Swan’s Mavis, who has box one in the Data Social Content Cup, is going a lot better than her recent form indicates according to trainer Dean Swain.

“From the rails she should show what she can do,’’ Swain said.

“Swan’s Mavis has just been racing without luck and last week at Wentworth Park she began brilliantly but couldn’t get across from box eight and was carried off by a wide runner.

“I took her to Potts Park for the Bankstown City Cup heats on August 30 but she got dragged down when she was about to go to the lead.

“She has checked out well after last Saturday’s run and is feeling really well so should have the pace to hold the inside running.’’

Another greyhound ideally positioned in box one on Friday night is the Larry Procopio-trained Passenger">Passenger in heat one of the AAA Radiator Specialists Sprint.

Passenger will be having only his fourth start after being sidelined for 10 weeks.

“He got a dose of kennel cough,’’ Procopio said.

Passenger is not strong at the end of 520 metres but he gets his chance from box one to show what he can do.

“He finished third at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but should be improved by that run.

Passenger has had a couple of hand-slips up the straight since and is fit and well.’’
