Viva Las Vegas For Delighted White

By Stuart Turner

One forthcoming buck's party will certainly go with a bang after Tommy Brislane confirmed his champion potential with Group 1 Sportingbet Megastar (520m) success.

The exciting chaser (pictured with White), who has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence in 2014, captured Friday night's $75,000-to-the-winner race at Dapto in thrilling fashion.

It is a welcome windfall for White, who is heading to Las Vegas for a mate's buck's party late next month.

The Nowra Hill trainer was "ecstatic" with the win, even if he has to juggle his diary now.

"It's probably not real good timing - it's the semis of the Vic Peters (at that time)!" White said. "I've got to look at the calendar now.

"I was pretty happy going into the race. He was looking well in himself.

"I'm really excited."

The race was a cracker, with White's greyhound ($8.30) edging Ritza Hattie by a neck in a flying 29.82.

It was a valiant effort by the runner-up, who was a distant $19.10 shot for owner/trainer Mark Gatt in his first race for more than four months.

"It was a sensational race," White said.

"When they came round the home corner I thought, 'he's still a length and-a-half in front’. Then I heard Mark cheering and I thought, 'I'd better look at the TV'.

"My heart was pumping."

Gun Queenslander Flash Reality was third.

Highly fancied Shoulders had a disastrous start and finished eighth, while the formidable Zipping Willow was seventh.

White said he and the connections, including owner Geoff Slattery, were on cloud nine with the win.

"I rang Geoff after the race and he was over the moon," White said. "I spoke to his wife and she was dancing like Fred Astaire.

"I was ecstatic and was congratulated by everyone - and that's the way the sport it."

Tommy Brislane is set to contest this Saturday night's heats of the Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint (520m) at Wentworth Park this Saturday.

He will likely bypass next month's Group 1 Vic Peters Classic at the Glebe track - buck's plans notwithstanding - for a possible crack at the Group 1 Topgun at The Meadows on October 25.

Wherever he runs, White believes a successful future could lie in what for his charge.

"He has good manners, good box speed - he is a good dog," he said.

"I suppose the sky is the limit with these young dogs, especially when they are winning Group 1 races after 14 starts."

The meeting was the latest leg of the Thank Dog It’s Friday series, which showcases the best racing at regional NSW tracks over the coming months.
