Tommy Brislane Is The Megastar Champion

By Stuart Turner

Tommy Brislane has confirmed his champion status by claiming the Group 1 Sportingbet Megastar.

The fast-rising greyhound, who has burst onto the scene in stunning fashion in 2014, won the $75,000 top prize for trainer Steve White (pictured with the winner) in a breathtaking race at Dapto on Friday night.

White's charge ($8.30) edged out Ritza Hattie by a neck to earn his first Group victory.

Delighted Nowra trainer White said Tommy Brislane, who made good use of a helpful box three draw, had produced something special.

"It was such a big effort," White said.

"I thought this was our big chance tonight and once I saw him go past the first turn I knew we were in it.

"The other big finals he's been in he has had bad luck with the draw, but I thought he had a chance here if he could get to the rail.

"He is an exciting dog - he's not even two years old yet - and he may have more big wins in him yet."

Tommy Brislane came home in  29.82 to seal a 10th win in 14 starts since debuting in April.

He is certainly one to watch over the coming months, with White indicating he may be targeting him for the big NSW Spring races at Wentworth Park.

Ritza Hattie was making a first appearance in more than four months due to injury but came agonisingly close to winning as a $19.10 shot.

Queensland sprinter Flash Reality was third.

Heavily fancied pair Zipping Willow and Shoulders didn't feature, finishing seventh and eighth respectively.
