Legend Returns To Wentworth Park

By Stuart Turner

Legendary Xylia Allen and recent National Championships Distance winner Sweet It Is head a star-studded list of nominations for this Saturday’s Wentworth Park meeting.

The pair head to the Sydney track on Saturday to help cap off two nights of top-class greyhound racing in NSW.

Victorian Xylia Allen (pictured) returns to the Glebe track for the first time since April this year when she starts in the first of two Group 3 Chairman’s Cup (720m) heats.

One of the true all-time greats of the track, Jenny Hunt’s recently anointed national Greyhound of the Year will be aiming for the chance to add yet another title to her sparkling career.

She has enjoyed a superb 2014 and recently became Australia’s biggest ever money-earner, having already clocked up more than $720,000.

Xylia Allen may not have it all her own way, though, with the strong field including Dyna Willow and Dusty Moonshine.

Meanwhile, Sweet It Is travels to Wentworth Park fresh from her superb victory at the Group 1 Nationals in WA last month.

Darren McDonald’s terrific Victorian stayer saw off a high-class field – including Xylia Allen – to take the title.

Sweet It Is goes in the second heat in a field including Queen Marina and My Asuncion.

Other quality greyhounds in action in the night's races include Silent Effective, I’m Pedro, Bessy Boo and Queen Esther.

The meeting is 24 hours after what should be a cracking night’s racing at Dapto, including the Sportingbet Megastar Prelude.

Eight top-quality contenders will battle it out for a place in next week’s Group 1 $75,000-to-the-winner Dapto Megastar.
