Thank Dog It's Friday Ready To Go!

By Stuart Turner

Whether it’s on or off the track,  this Friday night’s first Thank Dog It’s Friday event at Unibet Gardens promises to be a memorable affair.

Excitement is mounting ahead of the meeting, which kicks off Greyhound Racing NSW’s (GRNSW) new series.

Headlining the event is the Group 2 Black Top Final (515m), one of the most sought after crowns in NSW greyhound racing.

Some of the state’s best greyhounds will compete for the title, which also carried a $40,000 top prize.

There’s also some excellent greyhounds going in the night’s nine other races, with some great action in prospect.

It also promises to be a fabulous night off the track as well.

Former NSW Origin and Australian star Brett Mullins will be appearing at the track, mingling with lucky winners of GRNSW’s  VIP Doghouse competition.

More than $730,000 in prizemoney will be up for grabs during the Thank Dog It’s Friday racing series, which has started with the Black Top and concludes with the final of the Group 2 Bulli Gold Cup in May.

GRNSW Chairman Eve McGregor said the aim of the Thank Dog It’s Friday series was to attract people to regional racetracks for their feature race meetings.

“I am delighted to be launching the Thank Dog It’s Friday racing series as it will feature the best racing the NSW greyhound racing industry has to offer in a convenient Friday night slot,” Ms McGregor said.

“The opportunities of staging feature races on a Friday night are quickly becoming recognised in all codes of racing. This is particularly the case in greyhound racing, with this year’s Melbourne Cup and Adelaide Cup also taking place on a Friday night.”

Action gets under way at Unibet Gardens at 7.19pm.
