Fast-rising Arizona Senorita enjoyed a dream debut at Unibet Gardens but trainer Peter Lagogiane is keeping cool ahead of her second visit.
The impressive sprinter starts from box one in The Gardens Social Club Stakes (400m) on Friday chasing a fourth consecutive win.
Lagogiane was given the chaser by her Chinese owners about two months ago and they have struck up a great partnership, with Arizona Senorita’s securing her latest triumph over 400m at Unibet Gardens last week.
Her trainer is enjoying working with the eye-catching speedster but said starting from the rail this time around could pose her some challenges.
“The Gardens can be tricky (to win from) on the inside,” he said.
“If you don’t get it right there can be dogs on top of you and you’re in trouble.
“It’s one of the few tracks around where that happens. It’s that type of track.
“She has brilliant box speed so we are hoping she clears out early. Hopefully there’ll be a scrimmage behind her (as well).
“We were very impressed with how she went (last week). Hopefully she can carry that on.”
Last week’s win made it seven triumphs from 20 starts for Arizona Senorita.
As a daughter of El Grand Senor, who chalked up 35 wins in his memorable career, she has the pedigree to succeed.
There is some handy opposition lying in wait this time around, though, with Left Field (box two) and box six’s Just Run It among the decent field.
Langogiane thinks his charge could soon step up in distance but has more plans for the shorter distance first.
“There’s a good $3,000 race at The Gardens for fourth graders next week,” he said. “We might have a go in that.
“I don’t think she can go beyond the 400m at the moment but we will probably try her later over the 500m.
“Let’s wait and see what happens this week first.”
Other notables at Uinbet Gardens on Friday include recent strong performer Grin Diddle (race nine) and John Lawson’s Asteroid Miss in race four.
Ten races are on offer at Unibet Gardens and action starts at 3.42pm.
