Temalor Aims For Dream Debut At Maitland

By Stuart Turner

Temalor takes the first competitive step in what could be a memorable career at Thursday’s Maitland meeting.

The eye-catching Beau Hedley-trained sprinter has a debut outing from box three in the taragreyhounds.com.au Maiden (450m).

Temalor has already trialled well at the Hunter track, clocking 25.28 for the 450m last week.

Hedley, the 2013 NSW Young Greyhound Trainer Of The Year, said he had city hopes for his novice.

“I think she will run 500m at Wentworth Park in the future but she is still young yet,” he said.

“She’s been doing everything right so far (and) I think she will improve a touch more yet.

“I’ll probably go back to Maitland next week with her and plug away there with her.”

Temalor’s likeliest challenger would seem to be Devine Lad (box two), who has a 25.48 best for the distance and has been solid previously at Maitland.

Other notables racing at Maitland include Sneaky Little Me (race four) and Jason Mackay’s Frost Yourself in race ten.

Meanwhile, Hedley said he believes Can Of will return in improved form despite the greyhound’s ongoing battle with injury problems.

The promising sprinter chalked up five wins from his first ten starts but has not raced since suffering a stomach muscle knock at Wentworth Park back in May.

“I’m extremely confident he will come back better than what he was," Hedley said.  "He is still young and learning.

“We’ll aim for a 450m (with him) up at Maitland in around six weeks.”

Hedley is certainly not enjoying the best of fortunes, with another of his standouts, Avondale Porche, also on the sidelines.

She won an incredible 10 of her first 13 outings but has not raced since Wentworth Park last December.

After suffering a shoulder injury, she was sent to top Victorian Kel Greenough earlier this year.

The promising bitch then came on season and is now awaiting a return to racing.

“I think she’ll be back in another four or five weeks,” Hedley, who works out of the Lake Macquarie town of Cooranbong, said. “We’ll keep her down there with Kel.

“I’ve got a decent team of greyhounds but it’s been a quiet recently with one thing and another. I guess this is just the good and the bad of greyhound racing.

“Hopefully I can have them all back soon and then things will get moving.”

Ten races are on the card at Maitland and action starts at 3.57pm.
