Buckle Up Wes Out Of Nationals

By Stuart Turner

Dominator Girl will replace Buckle Up Wes in this year’s Group 1 AGRA National Sprint Championship after the latter was forced to withdraw through injury.

Trainer Ted Medhurst said his kennel star had pulled up sore after winning the Tasmanian state final of the series in Launceston last Monday night.

“He has damaged the ligament that runs down to his stopper bone (front leg) and unfortunately it will mean at least two months off racing,” Medhurst told tasracing.com.au.

“It is quite devastating because the dog is in great form and he certainly would have been a big chance in the national final."

Buckle Up Wes (pictured) won the Australian Cup in March and has since been very competitive in Group racing around Australia.

He was the top-ranked dog in the national series.

The injury means Dominator Girl, who finished second to Buckle Up Wes in the Tasmanian final, gets an invite to next Saturday’s final at Perth’s Cannington track.

AGRA publicity officer Neil Brown said Dominator Girl’s connections had accepted the offer and would travel.

The Sprint and Distance finals feature greyhounds from states across the country and each offer $75,000 to the winner.

NSW Distance representative Queen Marina and Queensland entrant  Wag Tail are due to trial at Cannington this Saturday in preparation for the Distance final.

Sprint finalists Wild Soul and Crackerjack Dak will also trial alongside NSW hopeful Bessy Boo.

He has travelled as he may still earn a final berth depending on the outcome of the WA finals this Saturday.
