Recruitment Aims To Get The Job Done At Richmond

By Stuart Turner

It’s not always how you start, it’s how you finish that matters – as Recruitment is illustrating.

The highly promising sprinter goes from box seven in the Castlewood Kitchens Phil Davies Memorial Sprint Series Fifth Grade (535m) at Saturday’s Richmond meeting.

Since debuting in April he has chalked up five wins in ten outings, mostly in challenging company.

Trainer Shaun Evans said Recruitment wasn’t the fastest out of the lids but his charge  gets motoring when he needs to.

“He is a very relaxed greyhound,” Evans said.

“His first sectionals are not really reliable, but his run home is pretty strong.

“He won at Wentworth Park (over 520m) last month so he’s got the quality.

“I think he will be a 600 or 700m dog one day but we’re just seeing how it goes first.”

A son of Cosmic Rumble, who finished his career with 20 wins from 41 starts, Recruitment is already making a solid impression.

As well as his triumph at Wentworth Park, he already has good wins at Dapto and Richmond to his name.

Box seven is not the ideal draw but he has won twice from the six already at the western Sydney track.

A handy field has been assembled for the $10,000-to-the-winner race, with Recruitment facing some strong opposition.

Tricky Rose (box five) has gone 30.35 for the distance and has been a consistent recent performer.

Any greyhound of Christine Oldfield is usually worth considering, so Frattini could challenge from box two.

Box eight’s Billy Bowlegs has been in great form recently and won from the outside at Wentworth Park recently.

“It’s a smart field,” Evans said. “I would certainly have preferred boxes one, two or three for this.

“I think he may find it tough from his box here (but) he is on the right track for him.

“If he does everything right then I think he has a chance.”

The race is the sixth of ten on the card at Richmond, with action starting at 7.14pm.
