Twix Aims For More Success At Goulburn

By Stuart Turner

Twix has a mouth-watering name and will aim to improve her very tasty record at Goulburn on Tuesday.

The exciting sprinter will aim for a remarkable 11th win from 12 races when she starts from box five in the Hurricane Luke @ Stud Sprint (350m).

Part of a handy litter all named after chocolate bars, Twix’s record so far includes two previous triumphs over 350m at Goulburn earlier this year.

Her delighted trainer Jason Platts said his charge’s dynamite starting ability made her so successful.

“I’m not that surprised she’s going so well,” she said. “She broke in really well for us.

“She’s unbelievable out of the box. The lids open and 99.9 per cent of the time she jumps three lengths ahead of the rest.

“She’s a great little greyhound.”

Twix’s father was Dyna Lachlan, who chalked up 26 wins from 47 starts in a notable career.

She has only raced intermittently since debuting in September last year but her record also includes four consecutive wins at Canberra.

Platts, who combines training with running a plumbing business, said the unpredictable bitch kept him on his toes.

“In the kennels she is the quietest dog you’d ever know,” he said. “Out of the kennels she’s a bit of a wild thing.

“One you get her to the track, she’s very competitive.

“I want to see if she’ll go well over 500m this campaign. I’m not she can because she’s so quick early, but we might give it a try.”

It is a quality race, with fellow handy newcomer Mighty Claire (box three) also worth considering.

Platts, who works out of the Canberra suburb of Evatt, first became involved with greyhounds about 25 years ago.

“I just like the enjoyment of winning,” he said. “I don’t really do it for the money - it’s more about getting the win.

“Whether it’s $300 at Temora or a $1,000 race at Bulli, it means the same.

“It’s been a thrill seeing Twix go so well. Hopefully she can carry it on.”

Other notables to watch include Spring Murder in race three and Paua to Roar in the fifth.

Promising Are Jai Que is also one to keep an eye on in race nine.

Ten races are on the card at Goulburn and action starts at 2.12pm.
