Puppy Auction Nominations Open Shortly

Nominations open this Thursday for the inaugural 2014 Globe Memorial Richmond Puppy Auction.

Greyhounds sold at the auction will be eligible to compete in the 2016 Richmond Riches Puppy Classic, a race series offering more than $140,000 in prize-money.

The series will feature triple crown of events over distances of 400m, 535m and and 618m.

Headlining the series is the feature event, a 535m race with $100,000 to the winner.

Nominations are open to puppies whelped between January 1 and June 30 2014, with all pups sold eligible for the race series in May 2016.

This year's Globe Memorial Richmond Puppy Auction takes place on Sunday, November 30 and will be broadcast live on the Sky Racing 2 channel.

Richmond Greyhound Club General Manager Wayne Billett said the auction had already attracted huge interest.

"Since we first announced the auction we have fielded numerous enquiries but in the past week, the phone has rung hot from people requiring more details," Billett said.

"We are extremely hopeful that this will be an auction and race series which will really have an impact on the Australian greyhound racing industry for many years to come.

"With the bonus of parts of the auction being broadcast live on Sky Racing 2, we think it will create unprecedented interest."
