Hershey's Kiss Aims To Impress Again At Wenty

By Stuart Turner

Raymond Scully only recently joined forces with Hershey’s Kiss but he is already liking what he is seeing.

The promising greyhound goes for her fifth win in seven starts in the Bohemia Crystal Sprint Series (280m) heats at Monday night’s Wentworth Park meeting.

After winning on debut at Temora back in March, Hershey’s Kiss racked up a hat-trick of victories at Canberra to underline her potential.

Trainer Scully was only handed the bitch by the owners about a week ago and said he was keen to see her in action on her debut trip to the Glebe track.

“My first impressions are that she’s a good greyhound,” he said.

“I’ve watched a few of the replays of her races and she has done well.

“She’s an excellent beginner – she really pings the lids.

“We’ll see if she can carry that form on now.”

Hershey's Kiss, who also has two other placings to her name but is dropping back in distance for the race, has a fine pedigree.

Her father Dyna Lachlan racked up 26 wins from 47 starts in a notable career, while mother Walkaway Tiny was a decent country performer too.

Hunter-based Scully said he aimed to take Hershey’s Kiss north to see if she could maintain her decent progress.

“We’ll probably give her a few starts at Maitland and The Gardens,” the 61-year-old said. “That’s the plan.

“We’ll slowly creep up in distance and see if she can run the 400m.

“I’ve liked working with her so far – she’s got a bit of character.”

It promises to be a competitive race, with some handy opponents lying in wait for Hershey’s Kiss.

How’s It Going (box eight) has already clocked 16.31 for the distance and has been a consistent recent performer.

Miami Rebel will also be looking to continue his improving recent form when he starts from box six.

Wentworth Park is staging five heats of the Sprint Series tonight.

Other greyhounds to look out for include Cherish Amore (Race Four) and Puzzle Queen in the 10th race.

Race nine features what should be an eye-catching battle between Pee Kay (box three) and Bang Pow Boom, who starts from the rail.

Ten races are on the card and action starts at 7.13pm.
