Zelemar Fever Looking For Momentum

By James Broadhurst

Star sprinter Zelemar Fever will have a final hit-out to regain her best form prior to the WA Sprint Championship series when she goes around in the Matso’s Broome Brewery Free To All (530m) at Cannington on Saturday.

The speedy black chaser from Linda Britton kennels had her first start for nearly two months last weekend and she looked like she needed the run as she finished third behind On Coin.

She was unusually lethargic out of the traps and although she recovered well enough to push forward through the field to clock an okay time of 30.57 she’s got plenty of upside in her.

From box two this weekend she gets every chance for a confidence boosting win.

On Coin is taking a week off before his Nationals bid and while the rest of Zelemar Fever’s rivals are handy they’re nothing she shouldn’t be able to handle if she’s somewhere near her best.

It’s likely that she’ll concede the early advantage to the quick launching Jump The Queue but she should be able to round up that greyhound somewhere along the back stretch.

There’s only five runners in the 715m Free To All (Race 7) but the race still shapes as an intriguing affair.

There are three chasers currently vying for the ascendancy within WA’s staying ranks and each one has the opportunity to get an edge over the others as they head into next week’s Distance champs.

From the pole Reverberate has the benefit of a better draw than Ash Flash and Bingle Monelli.

Reverberate has the early pace to take full toll of the red and she beat both of her main rivals with a front-running effort last week.

I keep waiting for Ash Flash to take the next step and become a really dominant stayer and although she hasn’t done that so far she’s generally thereabouts.

Ash Flash won two straight prior to last weekend’s defeat and is every chance to turn the tables on Reverberate with the right run.

Bingle Monelli has saluted in 50% of her races over the ‘700’ but she’s yet to claim a win over either Reverberate or Ash Flash but she’s not far off either of them.
