Bee Man Aims To Show His Sting At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

He may have his work cut out but Bee Man is capable of stinging the opposition in Tuesday’s Gosford Signs Sprint Series Final (400m).

That’s the view of trainer Pauline Moran, whose greyhound will start from box two in a solid field for the race at the Central Coast track.

The opposition includes impressive newcomer Klienzan, consistent Cosmic Halo and jet-heeled Arizona Senorita, who has clicked 22.69 on each of her last two outings at Gosford.

Bee Man is the slowest of the eight scheduled starters over the distance but Moran said her charge shouldn’t be written off.

“He likes the inside, so the draw will help him,” she said.

“I don’t know if he can lead these dogs with the first sectionals they have got, but I think he can be there punching along the fence.

“He will have to jump well and hold the rail. That is key.

“When you look at the form, it will be hard for him to compete, but anything can happen in racing.”

Bee Man certainly has plenty to offer, having compiled a handy six wins and 14 placings from 27 starts so far.

He disappointed on his first outing at Gosford two weeks ago but improved last week with a runner-up spot.

Moran’s sprinter was unable to make much of an impact during two recent visits to Wentworth Park over 520m but is back at his favoured distance here.

“We have tried him a couple of times over 520m but he just cannot run it,” the Londonderry trainer  said. “It’s back to the sprint.

“I was pleased with him last time out here. It was a good run and he did well.

“This is a hard race but he is an honest little dog.”

Moran has been around greyhounds all her life after being introduced to the sport by family.

The 61-year-old has been training greyhounds for about 40 years and her passion for racing remains undimmed.

“I just love dogs and being around animals,” she said.

“I think when you are born into it then it’s hard to get out of it. It’s in your blood.

“You have a lot of ups and downs – more downs – but that is the way it goes.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a maiden or a bigger race, I still get excited over a win.”

The race is the fourth of ten at Gosford, with action under way at 6.55pm.
