Lucy Lobster Looking Good

By Jeff Collerson

Lucy Lobster may have earned a tilt at next month's Group Two Black Top and  the chance to emulate her famous mother One Tree Hill, who won the big Gardens final six years ago.

One tree Hill took out the 2008 Paws of Thunder and Black Top double for owner Charlie Lamb and her daughter Lucy Lobster was among the star attractions at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

Despite  being checked at the start when Zulu Mystique veered right on leaving the boxes, Lucy Lobster zoomed to the lead approaching the first turn before drawing away to win by just on six lengths in 30.15.

Lucy Lobster raced wide but still managed to run just .16 outside the fastest time of the night, posted by Fancy Chance in the opening event.

"The Black Top is an option for us because Lucy Lobster had not seen Wentworth Park for six months until tonight," trainer Lamb said post-race.

"I trialled her at Wenty when I was preparing her for the Magic Maiden series during the Golden Easter Egg carnival, but she kept going missing in that race."

"Lucy Lobster's dam One Tree Hill was a champion race bitch but she has also been a wonderful producer.

"She has had five litters, to Bombastic Shiraz, Slater, Mantra Lad, Brett Lee and Surf Lorian and has just been mated with Kelso Lorenzo.

"Lucy Lobster is from One Tree Hill's September  2012 litter to Brett Lee."

Meanwhile, an association stretching back 25 years continued at Wentworth Park on Saturday night when Stratavon Pat led from the first turn to win for trainer Christine Kay.

Stratavon Pat was having her 12th Wentworth Park start and until Saturday night had filled the minor placings five times.

"You can't say I don't persevere," Kay said.

The winner is owned by 73-year-old Ken Bagnall, from Stratford, near Gloucester, who has been rearing greyhounds for Christine and her partner, the late Dick Riley, for about 25 years.

"Ken does a great job rearing pups because I've found that youngsters that come off his property seldom break down," Kay said.

The most eye-catching run from Saturday night was the 29.96 performance by the Jason MACKAY-trained Zipping Summah, who is 37 months of age but was having only her 24th start.

Named after MACKAY's 12-year-old daughter, Zipping Summah ran a blistering 5.36 first split and a slick 13.78 second section to win comfortably.

Meanwhile, Pablo Cruz 'made' the race for his little brothert and kennelmate Satchmo's Hanky when the latter scored his fifth win in 18 Wentworth Park starts on Friday night.

Satchmo's Hanky jumped in front from box one with his wide running brother Pablo Cruz in hot putsuit at the first turn.

Paddy's Devil then ranged up on the outside at the first turn and looked set to trouble Satchmo's Hanky before wide-running Pablo Cruz carried him off the track, allowing his kennelmate to steal a winning break.

See you next week!
