Chances Are Ready To Do It Tough At Dapto

By Stuart Turner

Some formidable opposition lies in wait for Chances Are in the Coca Cola Dapto Oaks Final (520m) but trainer Sergio Forner hopes her hard yakka may get its reward.

The experienced bitch, who has a decent record of 11 wins and 19 placings from 52 outings, starts from box six in the race.

A strong field includes the 2013 Greyhound of the Year Double Twist (box two, pictured) and Premier Mozz (box seven) who was impressive in her heat win last week.

Forner admitted a tough night lies in store for his charge but said he cannot fault her dedication.

"I'm under no illusions - there's some very good dogs in this field," he said. "Realistically, we are going there to enjoy ourselves.

"You never know what can happen out there though.

"She's a great little worker. When I walk her back (after racing) she wants to have another go.

"She's an honest little bitch and I think she will give it a crack."

Forner has only been training the greyhound for a few weeks after taking her on from owner Brian Grant.

Chances Are has secured some good results under his stewardship, notching three consecutive placings in good company at Wentworth Park and Dapto.

She's gone 30 seconds dead over the distance and has won well in the past at Bulli, Dapto and Nowra.

"She has been knocking on the door," Forner said. "I don't think she's far away from winning a Wentworth Park race.

"I've always liked her and would like to breed from her one day.

"She's a pleasure to work with. If you had half-a-dozen like her in your yard, you'd be happy.

"This is going to be tough for her (and) she is better drawn inside, but you've got to be in it to win it."

Double Twist's win in the heats last week was his first after three below-par outings at Wentworth Park.

His time of 29.85 shows he is back in form and with a superb 24 wins from 44 starts, he will start as the one to beat.

Premier Mozz (box seven) has been consistent recently and may also be worth consideration for the $5,000 top prize.

The race is the sixth of ten on the card at Dapto, with action under way at 7.28pm.
