Hurricane Jack Aims To Storm Gosford

By Stuart Turner

It could be something of a red letter day for Hurricane Jack at Gosford on Tuesday.

The John Harris-trained greyhound goes in the Funnells Smash Repairs Erina Sprint Series Final (515m) aiming for a third consecutive victory.

Harris bought the greyhound, who has six wins from 30 starts, from Alan and Christine Proctor earlier this year.

He clearly likes what he sees in Hurricane Jack, who has placed on both his previous outings at the Central Coast track over the distance.

“I am sure he will mature into a city class greyhound,” Harris said. “He has the personality and ability to win several races at Wentworth Park.

“I’ve had dogs win several times at Wentworth Park and he is of that calibre and honesty.”

Hurricane Jack, who will start from box four, has flitted around the distances but seems to be at his best at 515m.

He’s become a solid country performer but has disappointed on his two outings at Wentworth Park so far, failing to place.

The final is a strong race, with You Name Me (box three) the quickest involved.

Havali goes from box one having been in superb recent form, while Perfected (box six) is another consistent recent performer.

Harris is aware his charge faces a tough task, but says victory is not out of the question..

Hurricane Jack is a fifth grade dog and this is a third and fourth grade race," the trainer said.

“I’m not so worried about the dogs on the outside. It’s the three that will make the race by going to the lead.

“(Hurricane Jack) is not strong enough to run them down (but) he is a nice front-runner himself.”

Harris said he may target the dog for next Monday’s Wentworth Park meeting, although that may be a little too early for him.

“I’m happy with him,” Harris, who works out of the Lake Macquarie town of Cooranbong, said.

“It was just about keeping him injury-free and changing his training regime a little bit.

“He seems very comfortable in himself and settled here now.”

The race is the eighth of ten on the card at Gosford on Tuesday night.
