Last Hurrah For Pee Kay At Wenty?

By Stuart Turner

There may not be many more chances to back Pee Kay after Monday night’s meeting at Wentworth Park.

The sprinter, who has accrued an impressive placing record, goes from box three in the Schweppes Sprint Series Heat Four (280m).

Pee Kay has been a strong performer over the short distances for trainer Andrew Mathias, winning almost half of her 25 career outings so far.

Mathias said this could be one of the last outings for the bitch.

“We’ve said that as soon as she comes in season, we will get her in for pups,” he said.

“She might become a mum before long.

“I hope she can keep going well before then.”

Lithgow-based Mathias took charge of Pee Kay as a giveaway after a handful of starts and they’ve proven a good partnership.

Since then she’s gone from strength to strength, compiling a record of 12 wins and five other placings and securing a distance best of 16.30.

She has been a regular at the Central West tracks but has only previous outing at Wentworth Park – a 2nd spot over 280m – in May to her name.

“She just can’t run over 300m as she gets tired but it doesn’t matter,” Mathias  said. “She still gets fed.

“She couldn’t run at first because she had soreness in her hips. We got her fit and she’s been great.

“She’s great to work with, except when she hears her tea coming. Then she starts barking and letting you know she’s around.”

Pee Kay has not run since winning over 307m at Bathurst in early June.

“I’ve not changed anything at all with her,” Mathias said.

“She is a third grade at Bathurst now so it can be tough finding starts with her.

“She’s fresh and should go well.”

The biggest threat on Monday night looks like handy newcomer Corporate Blue (Box Five).

He has chalked up consecutive wins but has gone over this distance before.

How’s It Going in box six has a 16.31 for the distance and has been improving in recent weeks.

The race is the last of ten on the card at Wentworth Park on Monday night.
