King Hoping To Reign At Wenty

By Jeff Collerson

Siblings Miss Sueko and Flying Morson have been shining at Wentworth Park in recent weeks and on Friday night their litter brother and kennelmate Allmendinger is poised to break through for his first city win.

Allmendinger has box one in the Bulli to Wenty Final (520m) and looks set to get a clear passage from the boxes to the first bend courtesy of extremely wide running Windswept, who has drawn two.

“The draw is perfect,’’ Allmendinger’s trainer Justin King said.

“While my dog won his heat at Bulli from box eight I far prefer him from box one on a tighter track like Wentworth Park.

“When they were broken in Allmendinger was quicker than Miss Sueko but she has obviously improved considerably.

Allmendinger is not far behind her now when I trial them but while Miss Sueko is a good beginner, Allmendinger can let himself down at box rise.’’

Friday night’s safest bet looks to be mighty midget Chilli Sierra, who has box three in the Schweppes Solo Stakes.

The tiny 24kg bitch is a brilliant beginner who has scored three wins and three seconds from nine Wentworth Park starts.

She has not raced since finishing a luckless seventh at the Glebe track on June 27 but trainer Ken Burnett says she is “raring to go.’’

“At her most recent start Chilli Sierra had box seven but the dog in box eight crashed left at the start and put her out of business," Burnett said.

After that I decided to give her a couple of weeks off and freshen her up.

"Sshe is fine now.

Chilli Sierra might be small but she has a heart as big as a lion’s.

“Even when she was being reared she was the toughest in the litter.

“I secured Chilli Sierra through obtaining her dam Sierra Lee from Elizabeth and Peter Bont on a pups deal.

Sierra Lee has since had a litter, now 17 months old, by Spring Gun.

Chilli Sierra looks well drawn on Friday night as the dog in box two is usually tardy early.

“My only query is Joshua Bale, who has box one.

“I’m not sure how much early speed he has and what he does in the run to the first turn because he hasn’t raced at Wentworth Park.’’

Early in his career Joe Hanley seemed unlikely to become a 500 metre dog but the Ron Bell-trained front-runner has developed stamina with age and has taken a liking to Wentworth Park.

He has had a win and three placings from six races at headquarters but his last start third behind Lochinvar Impact and Flying Morson last Friday night was his stand out performance.

After being third at the first turn and a close second on the back straight, Joe Hanley drove to the lead on the home turn before fading to finish third, posting his personal best Wentworth Park figures of 30.22 in the process.

He meets far weaker opposition in Friday night’s Sponsor A Race Stakes and only has to begin with his usual gusto to lead all the way from box three.

Joe Hanley looks to be Friday night’s best value wager.
