Mann She's Fast Boosts Family Fortunes

By Jess Moran

Family teamwork has helped Mann She's Fast enjoy an impressive start to her racing career - and things could improve further at Bathurst on Monday.

The impressive newcomer, who is owned and trained by father-and-son pairing Robert and Glenn Hatton, goes for her fourth win from four when she starts from box four in the Murphy's Pre Ed and and Rearing Fifth Grade Final (307m).

Her record already includes success over 307m at Bathurst last week, secured in a handy 17.91.

Dubbo-based Hatton senior said a change of scenery had worked wonders with the novice racer.

"Her potential wasn't so clear early on," he said.

"She was originally in my son's kennel in Sydney but she doesn't like being confined.

"She got very nervous and upset and used to her mess her kennel up.

"Glenn decided to send her out here to Dubbo and she's improved dramatically.

"After she moved out here and I began trialling her. she just kept getting better and better."

Mann She's Fast opened with an unexpected 2.5-length win at Dubbo back in June and since then she's gone from strength-to-strength.

"I didn't have very much confidence and thought maybe I should have put her in a maiden first up," Hatton senior said. "But she shocked me with her run.

"I expected her to finish up mid-field but she jumped to lead and that was the last they saw of her.

"It was a very pleasant surprise (as) she was $16 for the win.

"Unfortunately I didn't have anything on her - but (Glenn) did.

"It's exciting to think what she could do in the future."

A former racehorse owner and assistant trainer, Hatton senior is enjoying working with his son and the greyhounds.

"It's exciting for me personally because I'm still learning the trade," he said.

"Glenn is the one with the passion for greyhounds and it's started to rub off on me.

"We're constantly on the phone to one another and he's taught me quite a bit. He's great at studying the breeding of the greyhounds and picking the good ones.

"I've been involved with horse racing for a long time and I've found I can apply a lot of things I learnt with the horses to the greyhounds."

Mann She's Fast faces some tough oppostiion today, including recent impressive performers Super Janno (box five) and box six's Lolly Crusher.

Regardless of her performance on Monday, Hatton senior said he aimed to take things slow and steady with his novice bitch.

"The plan is to take her through the grades at the tracks around my area like Dubbo and Bathurst," the 62-year-old said.

"I might even look at taking her to places like Maitland in the future if she keeps going well.

"She’s racing over 300m now but plan is to eventually step her up over the 400m and 500m."

The race is one of ten on offer at Bathurst today, with action starting at 3.52pm.
