Bev Hopes For A Boost With Resemblance

By Jeff Collerson

Owner-trainer Bev Mahoney is laid low with pneumonia and will be looking to her chaser  Resemblance to give her a much needed boost at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

Resemblance will have her fourth race after being sidelined for six months with a serious leg muscle injury in the 520m Download ‘The Dogs’ App Today Stakes.

After two placings at Richmond, Resemblance rattled home to finish a close second to Peter Mosman Classic finalist My Awesome Opal in a fourth and fifth grade race at the Glebe track last Friday night.

Resemblance drops to fifth grade on Friday night and is not only the sole Wentworth Park winner in the field, but she has won three races on the Glebe circuit.

Resemblance tore a muscle in her back leg in December and it took six months to get it right,’’ Mahoney said.

“The good thing though is that she has come back as good as ever.

“She is well drawn in box eight on Friday and after this race I will consider stepping her up in distance again, beginning with a 600 metre race at Gosford.’’

Promising stayer Cosmic Rosie went into her first Wentworth Park 720m race last Saturday night after just two post-to-post hand-slips at the track so is a likely improver in Friday night’s 720m Find Us On Facebook Stakes.

The Gary Adams-trained greyhound, who is just 26 months of age, chased home Irinka Hope at her first long distance test over 717m at Richmond before being runner-up to the same greyhound at Wentworth Park last week.

Cosmic Rosie exited box eight last week and chased the winner all the way, with Irinka Hope carving out the 720m in 41.90, outstanding figures for a fifth grade event.

And while Cosmic Rosie was beaten five-and-a-half lengths, she would have finished much closer had Irinka Hope not “chopped her off’’ at the end of the back straight as she was angling for a rails run.

“I would have loved to have seen Cosmic Rosie in box one on Friday but she will handle the outside draw okay,’’ Adams said.

“She is a bit spooky but is going well and she can stay.’’

Adam bred Cosmic Rosie from his bitch Gazsha, who won half a dozen races.

Cosmic Rosie is from Gazsha’s second litter,’’ Adams said.

Pablo Cruz ran off at the first turn and collided with champion bitch Double Twist in last Saturday night’s Wentworth Park Free-For-All won by Zipping Willow in near track record time.

While Pablo Cruz put Double Twist out of play the Ben McCauley-trained dog didn’t do himself any favours either and he will relish the plunge from top class to fourth and fifth grade at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

Pablo Cruz is well drawn out wide in six in the fourth AAA Radiator Specialists Mixed Stakes and could pinch a winning break over hotpot I’m Pedro at the first turn.

Pablo Cruz has won four races at the Sydney track which equals the combined winning total of his seven rivals on Friday night.

And Pablo Cruz is going as well as ever because when he led throughout in his most recent Wentworth Park win on June 13 he posted his personal best Wenty figures of 30.04.

Punters should discard the fifth placing by Kicking Rocks at Gosford on June 24 when assessing form for the first AAA Radiator Specialists Mixed Stakes.

Kicking Rocks missed the jump but was going quickly at the first turn where he was almost knocked to the ground by a wide runner.

The dog has registered two wins and two placings in four Wentworth Park starts and is ideally positioned in box eight on Friday night.
