Harris Hoping The Magic Returns At Albion Park

By Stuart Turner

Magic Display was in motoring form before hitting a speed bump but now she is revving up again for a crack at the Garrards Winter Carnival Cup (520m) heats at Albion Park on Thursday.

The bitch (pictured) chalked up back-to-back wins during four consecutive placings at Wentworth Park in the autumn and earned a place in the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg Final (520m) at the Glebe track.

A leg break shortly afterwards forced her out of action for six weeks but she bounced back with a decent run on her return last Saturday night.

Trainer Evelyn Harris said that 30.03 run over 520m – again at Wentworth Park – was a sign her charge was back in form.

“It can take time to come back but we were pleased with that run,” Harris said.

“It’s always tough to beat the local dogs (at a carnival) but I’m optimistic she can do well.

“I thought her Easter Egg runs were good, so we are hoping she can do better this time.”

Since stepping up to the 520m mark in her 10th career outing, Magic Display has been a handy performer for her Northern Rivers-trainer.

She has chalked up six wins at Wentworth Park and currently has a solid record of 15 wins and 13 other placings from 37 starts.

Magic Display will go from box one during Thursday’s fourth heat and Harris said that should be favourable.

“She loves the rail,” the trainer said. “She is normally brilliant out of the boxes.

“She always travels well. We’ve had her down to Melbourne and she didn’t lose any weight and slept most of the way, so that won’t be a factor.

“It’s a strong field. Tony Brett’s dog in box eight (Flash Reality) will be tough to stop.

“I won’t get too excited but she’s up to this company.”

Flash Reality has six wins and five other placings from 11 starts and looks handy.

Peter’s Pick (box seven) has a formidable record at the track and has compiled 14 wins from his first 22 competitive outings.

The heat is one of 10 races on offer at Albion Park on Thursday, with action starting at 6.44pm.

Albion Park hosts the final next Thursday.
