Sidrak's Big Hopes For Iona Tokyo

By Jeff Collerson

Brilliant beginner Iona Tokyo (pictured), who took Wentworth Park by storm with three straight all-the-way wins between 29.71 and 29.78 in the autumn this year, is going to be a mother.

After contesting a Golden Easter Egg heat on April 12 she injured a stopper bone when fourth to Zipping Willow at the track a week later.

“While she was recovering from that injury she came in season," owner-trainer-breeder Frank Sidrak said.

"As I’ve long been keen to breed from her, I mated her with Jagger Swagger, the National Derby winner, and she is going to have pups.

“I will probably sell a couple of Iona Tokyo’s pups and I also have the next litter to her and her sister, the Paws Of Thunder winner Iona Seven, by Swift Fancy, which I am going to offer for $10,000 each.

Iona Seven hasn’t raced since April but her trainer Robbie Britton trialled her over 400 metres at Geelong late last week.

"Because she ran outstanding splits he is hopeful she will come back successfully.’’

Meanwhile the Sidrak name was to the fore at Goulburn last Tuesday when Little Mr Magic, trained by Sidrak's sister Nadia, won over 350m in a handy 20.02.

“He trialled 20.20 there and improved there last Tuesday but we think he can go quite a bit quicker yet,’’ Sidrak senior said.

Little Mr Magic goes again at Goulburn on Tuesday from box five in the Sky Racing Fifth Grade Sprint Stakes (350m).
