The doyen of greyhound race callers Paul Ambrosoli has announced he will call his last race at Wentworth Park this Saturday night.

Ambrosoli has grown to become synonymous with Sydney greyhound racing after taking his first broadcasting steps in the late 1960s calling Richmond and Goulburn meetings.

Ambrosoli’s near 50-year career and outstanding contribution to greyhound racing was acknowledged with his induction into the Australian Greyhound Racing Association Hall of Fame.

“Race calling was the only career I ever wished to pursue from the age of seven. Suffice to say, I have been very fortunate,” Ambrosoli said.

“Racing people of my vintage have seen the very greatest of racing from each code. Champions from racing that will simply never ever be emulated. The benchmark for greyhound racing will always be Zoom Top. Her exploits are well-documented.”

Sky Racing announced Tim Newbold will take OVER Ambrosoli's duties calling Sydney greyhound racing.

“It’s a privilege to be given the opportunity to call Sydney greyhound racing. I’m taking OVER from a legend and I can’t wait,” Newbold said.

Greyhound Racing NSW Chairman Eve McGregor thanked Ambrosoli on his contribution to greyhound racing in NSW.

Paul, or 'PA' as he is known to so many, will go down as one of the greatest callers in the Australian racing industry," Ms McGregor said.

OVER more than four decades he has been the voice of NSW greyhound racing with his entertaining and colourful calls adding to the excitement of some of the greatest moments in the sport’s history.

“We're going to make sure Paul has a great send off at Wentworth Park on Saturday night so I would encourage everyone to get to the track or tune into Sky Racing to farewell this living legend.

“I would also like to congratulate Tim Newbold on his appointment as the new Wentworth Park racecaller. Anyone who knows Tim knows how passionate he is about greyhound racing. Obviously he has big shoes to fill, but he has shown in recent years that he is one of the best up and coming callers in all racing codes.”

Sky Racing Chief Operating Officer, Brendan Parnell, said: “Paul Ambrosoli is truly among the icons of Australian race calling.

“The wonderful way he informed and entertained punters with his race calls is widely acknowledged. Sky Racing congratulates him on an outstanding career.”
