Push It Carries Family Fortunes

By Stuart Turner

If Dean Swain can add another notable title to his collection at Wentworth Park this Saturday, there will be no-one prouder than dad Sid.

Swain junior has Push It (pictured) going from box two in Saturday night’s Group  1 Rapidvite Peter Mosman Classic Final (520m), with the formidable bitch aiming to maintain her recent flying form.

The younger Swain is aiming to secure another Group 1 crown after Rue De Kahn claimed the Dogpro National Futurity in February.

His father, a fellow trainer whose notable achievements included snaring the 2003 Golden Easter Egg with Cyrus The Virus, said his son was in a great chance.

“He’s doing outstanding,” he said. “I would rather him winning (this race) than me.

“Dean’s been around dogs all his life. He loves training.

“It is hard to make a decent living from this game but he is doing all right.”

Swain junior was a happy man after seeing his dog drawn in box two for the $75,000-to-the-winner final, inside rival Stilton Blue.

His father agreed that it should favour Push It, who goes into the race having won six of her last seven starts.

“I said (before the draw) she needs to be drawn inside Stilton Blue,” he said.

“The dog in box eight (All Strung Out) has ability but I think he needed to be in box one.

“It all depends on whether Push it can get out well. If she can, she will do well.”

The pair are leading the TAB fixed odds market at $3 (Stilton Blue) and $3.40 (Push It) respectively, with impressive Tommy Brislane also attracting considerable interest and is currently at $3.50.

He has won seven of his eight outings to date and trainer Steven White is quietly confident.

“I cannot have asked for a lot more from him,” he said.

“I just hope Tommy Brislane can begin well. That is the key to a race like this.”

Claims can be made for all the greyhounds going in the high-calibre race.

Bessy Boo (box one) was only a reserve for her semi-final but has run sub-30 seconds at Wentworth Park.

Victorian Access is unfancied from box four but has had two good runs to reach the final and cannot be discounted.

Box six’s Where’s The Surf goes in on the back of four placings from his last six starts, while My Awesome Opal  (Box seven) won his heat well two weeks ago.

All Strung Out is a relative novice but is a highly promising dog and could well challenge from box eight.

The final is race eight of ten at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Peter Mosman Final Draw: 1. Bessy Boo; 2. Push It; 3. Stilton Blue; 4. Access 5: Tommy Brislane 6: Where's The Surf; 7: My Awesome Opal; 8: All Strung Out; 9: Fire Elusive; 10: Keybow.
