Very little separates the main chances in the Community Newspaper Group Paradise Street Trophy (642m) at Cannington on Saturday.
Jeff The Tipster (pictured with trainer Paul Stuart) defeated pre-series favourite Reverberate in their heat last weekend but Reverberate is more than capable of rebounding in the final.
In what was only his second run on WA soil since joining Stuart’s kennels Jeff The Tipster showed the sort of touch that saw him collect 22 wins on the eastern seaboard.
The ex-Tasmanian chaser was amongst the early leaders before taking charge at the business end and holding out Reverberate to score by half a length in the fastest qualifying time of 37.54.
If he’s given room to run from his outside draw Jeff The Tipster could reproduce the effort and take home silverware.
The consistent Reverberate generally doesn’t say out of the winner’s circle for too long and with her vast experience she can turn the tables, especially if she lands on the bunny.
Another greyhound that will be vying for the early lead is Mullet Hunter.
The Ben Abercrombie-prepared racebitch looked very comfortable over the middle distance in what was her first crack at the journey last week.
From an inside draw she has enough zip to be prominent in this race for a long time.
She and Zelemar Diva both recorded heat victories in times very similar to Jeff The Tipster, 37.55 and 37.56 respectively, and it wouldn’t surprise to see either of them get up to win.
With the Group 2 WA Oaks just around the corner leading local hope Star Recall has her final hit out prior to the start of the series in the Southern Gazette Free To All over 530m (race 4).
She’s a class runner and has reeled off wins in her past six starts but she’ll be tested from the lemon against a field of seasoned campaigners.
As long as she doesn’t get held up in traffic Star Recall should be able to notch another victory.
