Tough Task For Double Twist

By Stuart Turner

Garry Edwards is eyeing a couple of huge races for Double Twist but there’s the small matter of a testing field at Wentworth Park this Saturday night to OVERcome first.

The 2013 NSW Greyhound of The Year (pictured), who has a superb 23 wins from 41 starts, continues her return from injury in the Raise The Stakes For Cystic Fibrosis Stakes (520m).

Last Saturday night’s third place in the Macro Meats Gourmet Game Stakes (520m) at the Glebe track was her third race back since a four-month spell on the sidelines with a back muscle problem.

Trainer Edwards conceded last week’s run – albeit in a tough field – was slightly underwhelming, but is hoping for better luck this time out.

“It was slightly disappointing how she went last week,” he said.

“It was only late on Saturday that we definitely decided to give her a run.

“She has pulled up pretty well and I think she will go better this time out.”

The bitch, who also has 11 placings in her formidable record, faces another tough line-up this week.

She will head out from box seven and will have to OVERcome some tough opposition.

Zipping Willow, who won last week’s 520m race at Wentwork Park for trainer Jason Mackay, starts from box one for the second consecutive week and looks hard to beat.

DEAN Swain’s impressive Rue De Kahn heads out from box two, while Mark Gatt’s battle-hardened Gradence will seek a 24th victory in his distinguished career from box four.

“If you look at her stats, then box seven doesn’t seem to bother her,” Edwards said.

“I think her last eight starts have all been from four upwards, so she is used to being wide.

Really, every week is a bonus with this dog. Every time I put her out she seems to give me something.”

An exciting Spring should await Double Twist, whose 19 victories in 2013 included the Group Three Christmas Gift and the Group Three Nowra Puppy Classic.

Edwards is also eyeing a crack at a pair of forthcoming Group One events, the AGRA National Sprint Championship (525m) and the Sportingbet Megastar OVER 520m.

He is eyeing possible races in Victoria OVER the next two months which he hopes will be perfect preparation for these races.

This Saturday’s race is one of ten on the card at Wentworth Park, which includes the Peter Mosman Classic Final.
