Sandy Freckle To Surprise At Maitland?

By Stuart Turner

Sandy Freckle is the upstart of the Betfair Blue Paws Final Sprint Series Final (450m) at Maitland but he should not be overlooked, according to owner/trainer Cheryl Murray.

A solid field will challenge for Thursday night's race, including the Jason Mackay-trained pair Zipping Molly and Zipping Angel.

This will be only a fourth start for Sandy Freckle but the impressive newcomer has placed every time so far and seems suited to the Hunter track.

Murray knows he has his wok cut out to achievbe a win but said he should not be ruled out of consideration.

“He’s put in a good run every time I’ve had him in so far.” Murray said.

“I think he’ll be good enough to compete over 520m at Wentworth Park soon.

“Every time you face a ‘Zipping’ dog you know it will be hard to beat, but I think he can be competitive.”

Zipping Molly and Zipping Angel are both promising campaigners, with the former making a flying start to her career.

She has placed on all four outings so far and will be hard to stop from box one.

Anthony's Boy (box two) has also been going well recently and could challenge.

Sandy Freckle already has one victory over 450m under his belt, with decent times around the 25.50 mark

"He's a sensible dog - very nice to work with," Murray said.

"He is well-behaved and maturing well.

"He's a good dog for me to handle.

"At this stage I'm really just looking for him to improve with every race.

"This will be tough but if he can jump well and get out in front, he's got a chance."

The race is the eighth of 10 on the card at Maitland, with action under way at 3.57pm.
