Tommy's All White for Final

By Stuart Turner

Tommy Brislane has a record that would get anyone’s pulse racing but Steven White is determined to keep calm ahead of this Saturday’s Group 1 Rapidvite Peter Mosman Classic Final at Wentworth Park.

The highly impressive newcomer (pictured) has secured his berth in the $75,000-to-the-winner 520m race in impressive style, including winning last Saturday’s heat in 29.76.

That was a seventh win in eight starts for the dog and followed up a flying 29.47 heat run earlier this month.

Those performances have helped make him an early joint second favourite for the final but his Nowra-based trainer is keeping level-headed about his charge’s chances.

“I don’t think I’ll worry too much about that,” White said.

“We’ll keep the same routine this week. I think if you change things then the dog can sense things aren’t right.

“I might be nervous on the day but for now we’ll keep going as we are.”

White said his dog had pulled up well from his semi-final despite suffering a scare at the race’s conclusion.

“We were a bit worried about him as he got bowled over in the catching pen,” White said.

“He seems to be fine and going well.

“We’ll just let him have a run every morning and afternoon in the paddock.

“I think when the dog does the same thing and wants to work then that’s when you know he is happy.”

Stilton Blue is the early favourite from box three while Push It (box two) is also considered a good chance.

White said Stilton Blue was a “definite” threat but also earmarked All Strung Out as one to watch.

The box eight dog has only had eight starts for three wins but powered round his heat in 29.55.

He backed that up with another sub-30 second run in the semi-final to secure his final berth.

“He is a strong dog and I think he is the fastest one out there,” White said.  “He’s got a chance.

“I just hope (Tommy Brislane) can begin well. That is the key to a race like this.

“I just wish everyone good luck and hope all the dogs get round safely.”

The final is race eight on the 10-strong card and is off at 9.57pm.
